14TH WORKSHOP ON MHD STABILITY CONTROL

A Workshop at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory
Princeton, NJ, USA - November 9-11th 2009
(Monday 8:00 AM to Wednesday 1:30 PM)

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT OF 14TH WORKSHOP ON MHD STABILITY CONTROL:
NOVEMBER 9-11th, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory

We will hold a workshop with the theme of "Assuring successful MHD control in ITER" at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory November 9-11 following the 2009 APS-DPP Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia (November 2-6). It is the 14th in the series and is organized jointly by Columbia University, General Atomics, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, the University of Texas Austin, and the University of Wisconsin Madison

Please reserve these dates on your calendar! NOVEMBER 9-11th 2009.

Place: Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory

Dates: Monday 9th November (Registration at 8:00 AM) through Wednesday November 11th (Ending at 1:30 PM).

Fee: To be determined.

Special publication plan: This year, the invited speakers will be asked to submit their paper for publication in a special publication of Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion titled "Mode control in toroidal devices". All submitted papers will be subject to the standard PPCF refereeing procedure. The publication may include additional papers at the discretion of the editor.

Theme: With ITER construction progress in full speed, there is increasing interest to assure successful MHD control in ignited plasma and beyond. Focusing on planned hardware in ITER operational scenarios and development of plasma profile control systems, we would like to discuss "Assuring successful MHD control in ITER". Modes of our interests are sawteeth, fishbones and TAEs, NTMs, locked modes, RWMs, and ELMs. The control subjects include mode control, shape control (including control of "exotic divertors"), and error field control in tokamaks, RFP and stellarators. The format of this workshop will be similar to previous workshops in this series that include invited (30 to 40 minute) and contributed (15 to 20 minute) papers. Some invited talks may be of a review nature.

Program Committee: Richard Buttery (JET/EFDA), Robert La Haye (General Atomics), Piero Martin (RFX-mod/ASDEX-Upgrade), Gerald Navratil (Columbia University), Michio Okabayashi (PPPL), T. Ozeki (JAEA Naka), John Sarff (Univ. Wisconsin), François Waelbroeck (Univ. Texas) and K. Yamazaki (Nagoya University).

Local Host and Program Chair: Michio Okabayashi
