US-Japan Workshop on MHD Control, Magnetic Islands and Rotation

A Workshop at the University of Texas
Austin, Texas, USA
NOVEMBER 23-25, 2008
(Sunday 10 AM to Tuesday 3 PM)

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT OF 13TH WORKSHOP ON MHD STABILITY CONTROL: "US-Japan Workshop on MHD Control, Magnetic Islands and Rotation" NOVEMBER 23-25, 2008, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AUSTIN

We will hold a workshop on "MHD Control, Magnetic Islands and Rotation" at the University of Texas in Austin November 23-25 following the 2008 APS-DPP Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas (November 17-21, 2008). It is the 13th in the series and is organized jointly by University of Texas, Columbia University, General Atomics, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, and the University of Wisconsin, along with Nagoya University and the Japanese Atomic Energy Agency. Please reserve these dates on your calendar! NOVEMBER 23-25, 2008.

Place: The AT&T Executive Education Conference Center at the University of Texas Austin, http://www.meetattexas.edu

Dates: Sunday, 23rd November (Registration at 9:00 AM) through Tuesday November 25th (Ending at 3:00 PM). See Workshop Web Page for Hotel, Program, & Registration Information as they become available: http://fusion.gat.com/conferences/mhd08

Fee: There will be a $100 fee to cover the cost of the venue, refreshments, Sunday reception, and Monday dinner (in the open air atrium)

Theme: With ITER going forward, there is increased interest in using our experiment and theory advances in MHD mode control for demonstrating high performance plasmas. The subject includes the active control of both internal and external ideal/resistive MHD modes using plasma rotation, rotation shear, rf waves, feedback control, resonant magnetic fields, or profile control. The format of this workshop will be similar to previous workshops in this series that include invited (30 to 40 minute) and contributed (15 to 20 minute) papers.

Program Committee: Richard Buttery (EURATOM/UKAEA Culham), Robert La Haye (General Atomics), Piero Martin (RFX/ASDEX-Upgrade), Gerald Navratil (Columbia University), Michio Okabayashi (PPPL), T. Ozeki (JAEA Naka), John Sarff (Univ. Wisconsin), Frank Waelbroeck (Univ. Texas) and K. Yamazaki (Nagoya University). Local Organizer: Frank Waelbroeck, Program Chair: Rob La Haye
