Active Control of MHD Stability:
Active MHD Control in ITER
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT OF 11TH WORKSHOP ON MHD STABILITY CONTROL: "ACTIVE MHD CONTROL IN ITER" NOVEMBER 6-8, 2006, PRINCETON PLASMA PHYSICS LABORATORY

We plan to hold a workshop on "Active MHD Control in ITER", responding to the advancing ITER project. This will be held at PPPL November 6-8 following the 2006 APS-DPP Annual Meeting in Philadelphia (October 30 - November 3). It is the 11th in the series and is organized jointly by Columbia University, General Atomics, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, and the University of Wisconsin. This year the workshop will also be a US/JAPAN workshop with JAEA and NIFS participation. Please reserve these dates on your calendar! NOVEMBER 6-8, 2006.

Place: The conference room 318, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory

Dates: Monday, 6th November (Registration at 8:00 AM) through Wednesday November 8th (Ending at 3:00 PM)

Theme: Presentation of new looks at all possible concepts on active control of MHD modes in ITER and other burning plasma devices. This includes the active control of both internal and external ideal/resistive MHD modes using plasma rotation, rotation shear, radio frequency waves, feedback control, or profile control. Additional details and a call for papers will be given in June 2006. Format of the workshop will be similar to previous workshops in this series which include invited (30 to 40 minute) and contributed (15 to 20 minute) papers.

Program Committee: Robert La Haye (General Atomics), Piero Martin (RFX/ASDEX-Upgrade), Gerald Navratil (Columbia University), Michio Okabayashi (PPPL), T. Ozeki (JAEA), John Sarff (Univ. Wisconsin) and K. Yamazaki (Nagoya University).

Local Organizer: Michio Okabayashi, Program Chair: Rob La Haye
