We plan to hold a workshop on "Active Control of MHD Stability: Extension
to the Burning Plasma Regime " at University of Texas-Austin, following
the 2003 APS-DPP Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico October 27-31.
This workshop is the 8th in the series and will be organized jointly by
Columbia University, General Atomics, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory,
University of Texas, and University of Wisconsin. Please reserve these
dates on your calendar!
Place: University of Texas-Austin
Dates: Monday, 3 November 2003 (Registration at 8:30 AM)
to Wednesday, 5 November 2003 (Ending at 3:00 PM)
Theme: Presentation of recent results, present status, and future plans
in all concepts on the use of active control of MHD modes looking ahead to
application in the burning plasma regime. This includes the active control
of both internal and external MHD modes using plasma rotation, rotation
shear, feedback control, or profile control.
Additional details and a call for papers will be given in June 2003.
Format of the workshop will be similar to previous workshops in this
series which include invited (30 to 40 minute) and contributed (10 to 20
minute) papers.
Program Committee: Michio Okabayashi (PPPL), Robert La Haye (General
Atomics), Gerald Navratil (Columbia University), John Sarff (Univ.
Wisconsin), and Frank Waelbroeck (Univ. Texas).
Local Organizer: Frank Waelbroeck
