The 17th International Workshop on H-mode Physics and Transport Barriers will take place from 9 to 11 October, 2019 in Shanghai, China. This workshop is the continuation of a series of previous biennial meetings (San Diego 1987, Gut Ising 1989, Abingdon 1991, Naka 1993, Princeton 1995, Kloster Seeon 1997, Oxford 1999, Toki 2001, San Diego 2003, St. Petersburg 2005, Tsukuba 2007, Princeton 2009, Oxford 2011, Fukuoka 2013, Garching 2015, St. Petersburg 2017, Shanghai 2019).

OBJECTIVES
The workshop will be organized around six broad topics of current interest. An overview talk, accompanied by discussion, will be presented for each topic. Each talk will be followed by a poster session of contributed papers, related to the topic.To achieve the purpose of the workshop, the International Advisory Committee solicits contributed papers that present and discuss recent experimental, theoretical or modeling studies of transport barriers, both internal and edge, as observed in numerous magnetic confinement machines and in a variety of magnetic topologies.

DATES AND VENUE
The workshop is at the Bahia Hotel in San Diego, CA, USA from September 29 to Oct. 1, 2021

PUBLICATION OF PAPERS
According to the tradition, Overview and Contributed papers presented at the workshop are published in a special issue of the Nuclear Fusion journal. Participants are encouraged to publish their presentations in the special issue of Nuclear Fusion dedicated to 17th International Workshop on H-mode Physics and Transport Barriers.
