New Plasma Shape Editor on HP's

A plasma shape editor shapenew is vailable on local HPs. The editor allows users to manipulate a plasma boundary interactively. It may take input from an EFIT G EQDSK file, a fixed boundary file, or a basic shape S file, for instance, the double or single null reference. The modification to the boundary may be made by tugging or moving the boundary directly, or by changing one or more primary parameters. Other features include zooming, measuring distance, flipping, symmetrically modifying, recovering and so forth. A limiter may be read in separately also. Results of such modifications may be saved in a fixed boundary file acceptable by EFIT, or a basic S file that includes the boundary data points only. A help menu is provided on-line. The tool is written in IDL but requires no knowledge of IDL to use. A user needs to login to a local HP and have X-window available. To start a session, type

shapenew

if /link/efit is not in your path, or

/link/efit/shapenew

for the full path. The shape editor shapenew replaces the primary functionality of the FORTRAN code SHAPE. It has been incorporated into the Plasma Control System as well. The code is under the stage of testing. Comments, suggestions and bug reports are welcome. Please forward them to Qian Peng at x2453, or email peng@fusion.gat.com.
