Description: New Tool for Running EFIT on HPs

A new software tool now available on our HP systems provides a simplified
interface to EFIT. Called "runefit", this script is modeled on "run12",
which has been used to run ONETWO for a few years on the CRAYs and, more
recently, the HPs. "runefit" provides functionality similar to "run12"
but is not quite as elaborate. Also, at the present time "runefit" can
only run efitd65yd; however, if there is user demand this can be extended.

Presently, "runefit" is located in "/u/freemanj/codes", which may already
be in your path if you run ONETWO - if that is the case, then you may run
"runefit" simply with the command "runefit" (plus options).
For one screenful of usage information, issue the command "runefit help". <<<<<<

"runefit" was developed for use in Cary Forest's "4d" code, from which it
is still available. If you have any questions on "runefit" or would like
additional information, please contact Joe Freeman (freemanj@gav.gat.com).

Description: New Version of RUNEFIT

A new version of the "runefit" command has been installed on the local HPs.
This version has three new options:

-d to specify a directory permission other than the default of 777
-f to specify a file permission other than the default of 777
-v to specify an executable version other than the default of efitd65yd

Using the EFITDIR environment variable, one may also specify a directory in
which to look for the executable, other than the default of /link/efit. Note
that this version of "runefit" does NOT incorporate any capabilities related to
the SUMMARD program. As before, the "runefit" script is located in the directory
/d/codes. If this directory is part of your PATH, then you can run "runefit" by
issuing the command "runefit" (plus one or more of the six possible arguments).
For one screenful of usage information, issue the command "runefit help".
                                                                               .

Description: New Version of RUNEFIT

A new version of the "runefit" command has been installed on the local HPs,
specifically, those eight HPs which mount the Auspex disks. This version has
only one new feature, the -m option, used to specify a snap file mode of either
3 or 7. These numbers are known to EFIT users from the familiar EFIT prompt:

   type mode (2=file, 3=snap, 4=time, 5=input, 6=com file, 7=snap_ext):

Note that only modes 3 and 7 are now supported, with the latter as default.
This capability was added in response to a request from Chuck Greenfield.

directory is part of your PATH, then you can run "runefit" by issuing the
