Super Conducting Magnets

The ITER magnet system consists of 18 toroidal field coils, a six segment central solenoid, six poloidal field coils, and three sets of correction coils. The magnets will generate a 5.3 T magnetic field to confine a 6.2 m major radius x 2 m minor radius plasma with 15 MA of plasma current. The ITER R&D program has successfully built and tested a central solenoid and a toroidal field model coil.
