Power and Particle

ITER is designed for a nominal fusion power of 500 MW but can accommodate 700 MW. Blanket modules absorb most of the neutron power while divertor modules absorb much of the alpha particle power. The divertor modules pump out the helium ash to maintain the plasma purity. The nominal pulse length is 400 seconds but operation from 2,500 seconds to steady-state are envisioned.

Completed and Tested full-scale Divertor Cassette (one of 54). The cassette body was supplied by Boeing.
